Men’s Basketball Snaps Four Game Losing Skid with Win at Concordia

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – With four players in double figures, led by Payton Thomsen's 23 points, the Bethel University men's basketball team earned a 76-61 win at Concordia snapping a four-game losing skid.
 
Bethel finished the game 47.3 percent from the field while knocking down a season-high 12 treys finishing 41.4 percent behind the arc. The Cobbers finished 45.8 percent from the field and were 8-fo-18 behind the arc. The Royals took full advantage of the Cobbers 17 turnovers converting that to 24 points on the other end.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
• Thomsen's first three of the game helped Bethel open up a 15-8 lead through the opening seven minutes of the game.
Joey Kidder converted on a 3-point play giving the Royals what would be their largest lead of the game at 41-20 with 1:16 to go.
Gabe Siler beat the horn with Bethel's seventh three of the half sending BU into the locker room up 44-25.
• BU was 7-of-16 from long distance in the opening half while Concordia was 3-of-8.
 
Second Half
• Bethel's lead held steady at double digits despite a six-minute scoring drought early on in the second half.
• Defensivley during the scoring drought Bethel was strong holding Concordia to no field goals and four free throws over a seven-minute stretch.
• The Cobbers got the BU lead to single digits at 66-57 with 2:14 to go.
• About a minute later Thomsen put the nail in the coffin draining a three as part of a 6-0 run moving the lead back up to 15.
 
KEY PERFORMERS
Payton Thomsen's 23 points game on 8-of-16 shooting with five of those coming from long distance. He added eight rebounds and two assists.
Zach Doely registered another double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Nick Burke finished with 15 points while Joey Kidder added 11 respectively.
 
UP NEXT
The Royals return to the Robertson Center next Wednesday, Jan. 24 hosting Augsburg for a 7 p.m. tip off.
