Women’s Hockey Falls to Cobbers in OT

BLAINE, Minn. – After an unfortunate penalty set them at a player disadvantage, the Bethel women's hockey team suffered an overtime loss to the Concordia Cobbers, 3-2, Friday evening in Blaine. The loss brings the Royals' record to 8-6-1 overall and 3-5-1 within the MIAC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• A quiet first period yielded no goals for either team yet a decisive offensive advantage for the Cobbers, who notched 10 shots on goal to the Royals' 4. They finally broke onto the scoreboard just after the halfway point of the second period, finding the back of the Royals' net at 12:31.
• Bethel – who showed a massive difference in play during the second period– was determined not to enter the third period down as Abbie DeLong took a shot from just past the blue line and slotted it past the Cobber goaltender. The odds were evened as the teams headed into the final period of play, 1-1.
• BU came out hot in the third, scoring just barely into the second minute of play as Malia McKinnon cleaned up a loose puck bouncing around the crease after a shot from DeLong hit the pipe.
• Not to be outdone, the Cobbers answered back at 12:24, driving a top shelf shot past BU goaltender Anna Hanson to tie up the game, 2-2, and ultimately bring the two teams into sudden-death overtime.
• After a bit of back-and-forth play with no promising scoring opportunities, an unfortunate tripping penalty on Muntifering set the Royals down a player, and the Cobbers were able to capitalize on the advantage, scoring just 1:11 into the five-minute overtime period and ending the game with a final score of 3-2, Concordia.
