BLAINE, Minn. – The Bethel men's hockey earned a bounce back win over MIAC foe Augsburg University in its second game of the weekend, 5-0. The decisive five-point margin marks the Royals' biggest win over the Auggies since their 5-0 win during the 2007-08 season.
Now at the midway point of conference play, Bethel propelled itself into a first-place tie with St. Scholastica with 15 points. BU is 5-2-1 in MIAC play and 11-4-2 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• After a scoreless and penalty free first period, things heated up in the second.
Joe Westlund lit up the lamp first for the Royals doing so 5:41 into the period.
• Coming off a Bethel penalty kill,
Luke Anderson extended the Royals lead with his first collegiate goal. Off a Auggie turnover,
Justin Kelley skated with it into the zone and delivered a nice feed to Anderson.

Tyler Braccini got in on the scoring action going top shelf for his fifth goal of the year and 2:44 left in the second.
•
Tyler Kostelecky made it 4-0 13:52 into the third with his team-leading ninth goal of the season.
• Things got chippy late in the third with just under five minutes to go. After a frozen puck, three Auggies were sent to the box for roughing while BU had two players whistled for the same penalty.
• With 10 seconds left on the man advantage
Ben Doherty extended the margin while
Spencer Kring tallied his third assist of the night.
• BU's penalty kill was 3-for-3 and only allowed one shot while down a skater. Netminder
Travis Allen finished with 17 saves while improving to 5-2-2.

The Royals spend next weekend in Moorhead, Minn., as they take on the Concordia in another MIAC matchup. Puck drop on Friday, Jan. 19, is set for 7 p.m.
