Green Knights Outlast Royals in Four Sets

De Pere, Wis. – The Bethel University volleyball team played in their first game of the St. Norbert Invitational verse St. Norbert College on Friday night. The Royals were outlasted by the Green Knights in four sets by scores of 25-19, 21-25, 20-25, and 23-25. The loss on Friday drops Bethel to 0-5 on the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
First Set
• Royals take set one 25-19 with defensive dominance - holding the Green Knights to a .047 hitting percentage while forcing 11 attacking errors and blocking five attacks
• BU and SNC tied with 13 kills
• Down 12-13, Bethel went on a set altering run, stringing together a 13-6 run to take the set

Second Set
• Back and forth set had 12 ties and five lead changes
• Key run came from SNC, down 18-20, the Green Knights went on a 7-2 run to clinch set two
• St. Norbert lead the set with 14 kills to Bethel's eight
• Attacking efficiency flipped in set two, as SNC lead the set with a .146 hitting percentage while Bethel had a .020

Third Set
• Green Knights carried over their defensive prowess from set two by holding the Royals to a .125 hitting percentage compared to their .200
• SNC lead wire to wire, holding only one tie at 1-1
• Bethel did not go down without a fight - with the game at 10-17, BU went on a 9-3 run, closing the gap to 19-20.
• Green Knights went on a 5-1 run to end the set and take control of the matching going up 2-1

Fourth Set
• Royals landed blows early, going up 5-2
• SNC responded going on a a 5-2 run themselves, tying the set at 7 all
• With the Royals up 15-12, SNC went on a set and match clinching 10-3 run, taking a 22-17 lead that was never broken
• Set showed to be even play throughout; with BU leading 18-16 in kills, attacking errors 5-4 while SNC lead in hitting percentage .261 to BU's .236

• Danielle Friedges - 19 kills, 17 digs, 1.5 blocks
• Peyton Howie - 9 kills, 2 digs, 2 blocks, 3 serving aces

The Royals continue play at the St. Norbert Invitational with two games on Saturday, September 9 at 10:00 AM vs Dominican University and Illinois Tech at NOON.
