Davenport, Fla. - The Bethel University baseball team dropped their final game of their Spring trip Sunday morning by a final score of 1-0 to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Bethel's
Max Sutter had an excellent day on the mound, throwing seven innings of shutout baseball with no walks and six strikeouts.
The Royal offense struggled to find momentum in the game, only picking up four total hits, two coming from
Tommy Friesen and the other two coming from
Ty Koehn and
Nick Kulseth.
This game was scoreless through the first six innings with Bethel's
Max Sutter and Wisconsin-La Corsse's Isaiah Katz allowing no runs for either side. Katz had a total of twelve strikeouts against the Royals in his six innings pitched.
The Royals were extremely close to scoring the opening run of this game in the top of the sixth when
Tommy Friesen singled up the middle and
Ty Koehn drew a walk to put runners at first and second.
Nick Kulseth came up to bat with two outs and hit a fly ball to right field that was caught with an incredible diving catch by the Eagles right fielder to end the inning and the Royal's scoring threat.
In the bottom of the eighth,
Aidan Nelson came in for relief of
Max Sutter and Wisconsin-La Crosse would end up scoring the eventual game-winning run after a walk, an advance on a passed ball, and a clean single to left.
Bethel batters would go down 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth with two groundouts and a strikeout. The loss leaves the Royals with a 7-2 record on their Spring trip.
