Arden Hills, Minn. - The Bethel Univeristy baseball team's
Ty Koehn and
John Solfest both had impressive performances on the mound for the Royals in their doubleheader sweep of St. Scholastica Monday afternoon. Koehn pitched five scoreless innings in game one with four strikeouts while Solfest threw six shutout innings with eight strikeouts in the second game to back a steady Bethel offensive effort on the day. The Royals improved to 10-4 (2-0) on the year after the sweep on Monday.

Bethel jumped out to an early start in this game, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first after
Noah Wenberg blooped an RBI single to right scoring Tommmy Friesen and
Nick Kulseth stroked a solid RBI single to center to score
Keenan Hodgkin and put the Royals up 2-0.
The Royals added to their lead in the third inning when the bases were loaded and Nick Kulseth hit a ground ball to the shortstop which allowed him to reach second base on a fielder's choice coupled with an error. Two runs scored on the play in Justin Winterfeldt and Tommy Friesen to put the Royals up 4-0.
St. Scholastica answered back in the top of the sixth with a run of their own with
Michael Meadows pitching for the Royals but was held to only one run after
Blake Williams came in with the bases loaded to extinguish the fire and keep the score at 4-1 in favor of the Royals.
Bethel quickly grabbed the momentum back in the bottom of the sixth when
Nick Kulseth jacked a solo homer to left,
Brody Schneider scored on a failed pick-off attempt from the Saint's pitcher and
Matthew Carlsen stroked an RBI single to right-center to put the Royals up 7-1.
Jordan Axberg came in to pitch in the top of the seventh for the Royals and posted a shutout to give the Royals the 7-1 victory.
Ty Koehn picked up the win on the mound for the Royals, throwing five shutout innings with four strikeouts and two walks.
Game 2 | Bethel 5, St. Scholastica 0
The Royals got on the board early again in the second game in the bottom of the first when
Ty Koehn hit a sacrifice fly to drive in
Matthew Carlsen and put the Royals up 1-0.
The Royals added to their lead in the bottom of the third after a
Marcus Krupke solo home run to right put the Royals up 2-0.
The Royals continued to pour on offense in the bottom of the sixth when
Noah Wenberg drove in two runs with a double to right-center field and put the Royals up 4-0.
Bethel added another run to put salt in the wound of the Saints with a stinging RBI double off of the right field wall from
Nolan Jurgenson to grow the margin to 5-0 Royals.
Pitchers
John Solfest and
Aidan Nelson combined for a complete game shutout of the Saints.
