Davenport, Fla. - The Bethel University Baseball team saw their seven-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon after leaky pitching caused them to give up 27 runs and drop their first game on their Florida trip by a final score of 27-10 to Coe College. The Royals drop to 8-3 overall.
Bethel pitching struggled on the day with each of the six deployed pitchers going no longer than two innings and each giving up at least one run.
Ty Koehn takes the loss on the day, giving up six earned runs in the first inning and a third of the game.
Keenan Hodgkin and
Brody Schneider helped supply the Royals with offense, each picking up two RBIs on the day.
The Royals fell into an early hole after the Kohawks scored a couple of runs in the first inning but Bethel came right back in the back half of the first, scoring four runs with a
Ty Koehn RBI single, a
Keenan Hodgkin two-run double, and Hodgkin coming home to score one more run on a wild pitch to put the Royals up 4-2.
This lead would not last long, however, as the Kohawks piled on more runs and took an 8-4 lead into the third inning before
Nick Kulseth singled up the middle to cut the lead to 8-5.
Coe College continued to add runs steadily to their lead for the rest of the game, highlighted by a seven-run top of the fifth.
Bethel scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth from a Coe college fielding error, a hit batter, and a
Marcus Krupke RBI walk.
Brody Schneider added a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth for the Royals to get them to ten runs, but it was much too little too late as the Kohwaks cruised to a 27-10 victory.
