No. 9 Royals Slug Their Way to Pair of Wins in Spring Break Opener

Kissimmee, Fla. – The No. 9 Bethel University softball opened its spring break trip down in the Sunshine State with a pair of wins Sunday afternoon. The Royals opened with a 6-2 victory over Amherst before a 13-1 rout in five innings over Kenyon College.

Kayla Hokanson's three-run blast proved to be the difference in game once while the long ball continued in game two where Jordyn Rudolph blasted a grand slam in the second inning.

Game 1: #9 Bethel 6, Amherst 2
• In the Royals first at-bat, Allie Fauth and Lexi DeBace both reached before Kayla Hokanson drove in the game's first run with a sacrifice fly.
• Kayla Simacek struck out four of the first seven she faced before the Mammoths scored their leadoff double in the third.
• BU got that run back and them some as Fauth notched a bunt leadoff single. Two batters later K. Hokanson cleared the right field fence for her second long ball of the year making it 3-1.
• Allie Fauth and Sidney Bartels each drove in a run in the fourth while Autumn Earney scored the game's final run on an RBI infield single from Lexi DeBace in the seventh.
• Through the final four frames, Simacek struck out six, finishing with 11, giving up three hits and one run.

Game 2: #9 Bethel 13, Kenyon 1 (5 innings)
• BU set all nine hitters to the plate in the top of the first scoring five runs on three hits and two errors.
• They followed that up with a seven-run second on four hits and one error. An Earney single followed walks to Cortney Hokanson and Abbi Bates. That set up Rudolph for the two-out bases clearing blast over the left field fence.
• Ella Roberts go the win in the circle tossing 3.1 innings of work where she gave up one run on one hit, walked one and struck out one.
• The Royals swiped six bags in the game, Lexi DeBace and Kayla Hokanson each had two.
