AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Bethel University baseball team scored a total of 19 runs on 27 hits on Saturday to complete a double-header sweep of Roger Williams University. Ty Koehn had an impressive day at the plate for the Royals with 6 hits and 7 RBIs on the day. Koehn also hit a vital three-run home run during the second game of the day in an 11-4 victory for the Royals. BU improves to 4-2 on the season and continues the win streak - with 3.
Game 1 | Bethel 8, Roger Williams 4
The opening game of the day saw the majority of the scoring happen early and often for both sides.
The Royals fell into a 1-0 hole early in this one before putting up four runs in the bottom of the first when Nolan Jergenson doubled down the line to drive in two runs and Keenan Hodgkin singled to drive in two more and put the Royals up 4-1.
Bethel gave up another run in the top of the second before scoring three runs themselves in the bottom of the second when Ty Koehn hit a sacrifice fly before Justin Winterfeldt doubled to left center and drove in two runs to put the Royals up 7-2.
This score would hold until the top of the fifth when Roger Williams added a run and added another in the top of the sixth, but proved that it was too little too late as Ty Koehn singled down the right field line and drove in a run to put the Royals up 8-4 in the bottom of the sixth.
Bethel pitcher Wesley Brand shut out the Hawks in the top of the seventh to earn the save and secure the win for the Royals.
Game 2 | Bethel 11, Roger Williams 4
The second game of the day saw the Royals' offense explode for 11 runs while the pitching trio of Marcus Krupke, Jordan Axberg, and Grady Anderson held the Hawks to four runs again.
Bethel fell down 1-0 in the bottom of the first before exploding for five runs in the top of the third when Noah Wenberg singled to right center to drive in two runs and Ty Koehn hit a three-run home run to put the Royals up 5-1.
Bethel added three more runs to their lead in the top of the fourth when Noah Wenberg singled through the right side to drive in two runs before Ty Koehn singled to right center to add another run and put the Royals up 8-1.
Roger Williams added two runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 8-3 but the Royals answered with three runs of their own in the top of the seventh Caden Christiansen scored on a wild pitch, Tommy Friesen hit a sacrifice fly, and Ty Koehn singled through the right side to put the Royals up 11-3.
Aidan Nelson closed out the game for the Royals in the bottom of the seventh, giving up only one more run to Roger Williams and securing the 11-4 win for the Royals.
