Women’s Basketball Routes Thomas (ME) in Florida Opener, 73-35

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Bethel University women's basketball team led wire-to-wire in a 73-35 win over Thomas College Wednesday evening in Daytona Beach.

The Royals took over twice as many shots as the Terriers going 38.9 percent (28-of-27) compared to the 27 percent mark (10-of-37). Bethel got it done on the defensive end of the floor with 26 steals while forcing 37 turnovers.

BU opened the first quarter on a 10-4 run while holding the Terriers to a four-plus minute scoring drought to build a 21-6 advantage. While the Royals shot 55.6 percent in the second quarter, they held Thomas to a pair of field goals and a 6-of-7 mark at the free throw line.

Building on to its 45-17 halftime lead it was Anna Garfield who got the Royals margin to 30 on multiple occasions in the third. Seven straight points from Macey Littlefield late in the fourth moved the margin to 71-34.

Alli Born was the Royals leading scorer with 11 points. Colette Duininck, Rosalie Penke and Cally Peterson all finished with 10. Anna Garfield led the charge on defensive with eight steals and a block while Born added six takeaways.
