BLAINE, Minn. - The Bethel women's hockey team suffered its first shootout loss of the season in the opening game against the College of Saint Benedict on Friday. A scoreless tie through three periods and overtime earned BU at least one point in the MIAC standings. The Bennies took the shootout 2-1, gaining the extra point for conference points. Bethel moves to 3-3-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the MIAC.

Anna Hanson stopped 25 shots in total including 10 in the third period and seven in overtime.
The Royal penalty kill came up big to keep the score tied going 4-for-4 on the night stopping six shots in total and killing off a critical late overtime body checking penalty to send the game to a shootout.
In the shootout the Bennies struck first on their second attempt, but the Royals were able to answer on a shootout goal from junior forward
Abbie DeLong to tie the shootout at one a piece. The Bennies would score on their next shot attempt and the Royals would be unable to answer, sealing the shootout victory for Saint Ben's.
The Royals look to split the series tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 2 at 5 p.m. heading to MAC Arena in St. Cloud for another battle with the Bennies.
