EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Finding the game-tying goal in the final minute of regulation, the Bethel men's hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie with the No. 5th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugolds. The Royals remain unbeaten moving to 4-0-2 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Royals dominated the Blugolds in the first period, outshooting them 15-8.
Tyler Kostelecky notched four shots on goal and gave the Royals their first goal of the game with less than two minutes left in the period, drilling the puck into the back right corner of the Blugold net from the left side.
• A tough 3-on-0 offensive attack from the Blugolds outnumbered netminder
Travis Allen and allowed the Blugolds their first goal of the game at 8:01 in the second period.
• UWEC put the pressure on during the remainder of the second period, adding 16 on-frame shots to its total, but the BU defense and Allen buckled down to keep the score at ones all around.
• The second also saw the game's only power play of the night, which went in Bethel's favor. BU managed just one shot during the man advantage.
• The third period held some tense moments including a recalled Blugold goal, keeping the score even.
• UWEC was finally able to sneak one past Allen and the Royal defense at 18:49 setting UWEC ahead for the first time.
• With the final seconds ticking away Allen headed for the bench and just as the attacker skated on to the ice
Justin Kelley lit up the lamp with 46 seconds remaining sending the teams to the 3-on-3 five-minute overtime.
• Bethel had three good looks on net while Allen saved the Blugolds lone shot on net in the OT. Allen finished the night with 32 saves.
