GENEVA, Ill. – A two-goal first period paced the Bethel University women's hockey team to a 3-2 win over Aurora in the series finale Saturday afternoon.
Kallie Abrahamson tallied both of the Royals' power play goals while
Megan Johnson had a multi-point night with a goal and an assist.
How It Happened:
• The Royals opened with three straight goals, holding the Spartans to zero until midway through the second period.
• Abrahamson tallied her first of the afternoon on the Royals second power play just under 10 minutes left in the first period.
• Johnson followed with a second just 45 seconds before the first intermission.
• With BU on its fourth power play of the game, Abrahamson struck again this time 3:41 into the second period
• The Spartans tried to muster up a response to the 3-0 Royal lead and managed to find the back of the net at the 8:24 mark of the second.
• Bethel went on the penalty kill early in the third before an Aurora body checking call allowed the teams to skate 4-on-4 for under a minute. Bethel went full strength but it was Aurora who lit up the lamp shorthanded with 15:59 left in the game.
• The Spartans pressured the Royals' goalkeeper
Anna Hanson just as they had the night before, tallying 40 shots throughout the game, but Hanson earned 38 saves while helping BU hold on for the win.
What's Next:
The Royals have a week off but will host the St. Olaf Oles in their home and MIAC opener on Friday, Nov. 10, at the National Sports Center with puck drop set for 7 p.m.
