Royals Swept by MIAC-leading and No. 18th-ranked Gustavus

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Bethel University volleyball team had its hands full Saturday night facing off against No.18th-ranked Gustavus Adolphus at Gus Young Court in Saint Peter, Minn. The Royals fell to the Gusties in three close sets by scores of 19-25, 18-25, and 22-25.
 
The loss drops Bethel to 10-14 on the year and 5-5 in the MIAC where they sit tied for sixth with Concordia.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
• The Royals jumped out to a 4-1 lead thanks to one of Devanie Andre's three service aces on the night.
• Bethel led by as many as two before a four-point swing went the Gusties way at 12-10 where they took the lead for good in the opening set.
• Bethel had 13 kills on 42 attempts, resulting in a hitting percentage of .190. The Gusties hit .310 for the set
 
Second Set
• Gustavus opened the second on a 7-0 run that was ended by a service error.
• A kill from Abigail Drury pulled BU within 14-9, but they would get no closer after the Gusties took five of the next six points opening up the advantage.
• Bethel only took 29 swings in the set recording 10 kills for a .207 hitting percentage. On the other side of the net Gustavus was finding the floor on nearly every attempt hitting .515.
 
Third Set
• The Royals built a 7-3 lead before the Gusties evened it a 7-7.
• Bethel garnered that lead back at 14-12 before Gustauvs flipped the script with six straight.
• A kill from Webb tied it at 20-20 late until the Gusties rattled off four straight. Another kill from Webb and a Gustie attacking error kept BU in it until an attacking error by Webb gave the Gustie the set.

• Marley Webb – 10 kills, .304 hitting percentage, 2 block assists
• Devanie Andre – 13 digs, 3 service aces
• Brenna Stark – 30 assists
