MINNEAPOLIS – After last night's upset victory for the Royals over Augsburg, Saturday's series finale had a playoff type atmosphere inside Ed Saugestad Rink. Despite never leading, the Bethel University men's hockey team skated neck-and-neck with the No. 12th-ranked Auggies ultimately falling 3-2.
Bethel fell to 9-7-1 on the year and 4-3-1 in MIAC play where they sit fourth in the standings with 14 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg tallied the game's first goal at the 14:54 mark scoring on its only power play of the night. The Auggies connected on their first shot 18 seconds into the man advantage.
• The Royals came out in the second peppering the Auggie netminder, leading the shots on goal battle 18-9 for the period.
• While BU didn't connect on its first power play chance,
Jarrett Cammarata evened it up with just over four minutes to go with his team-leading ninth goal of the year and fifth power play goal.
• The Auggies went back in front 4:37 into the third scoring on a rebound shot after Bethel netminder had made a flurry of saves within a 10 second span.
• Bethel found a way to tie it up, this time just 18 seconds after being on the power play.
Jake Herter tallied his third goal of the season at the 8:16 mark.
• Augsburg took the lead for good as Gavin Holland scored his second of the night with 8:05 remaining. The backhand shot was right on the door step of Ryman.
• BU made one last effort pulling Ryman and gaining the extra skater with 1:35 left.
