HAM LAKE, Minn. – The Bethel University men's golf team opened its 2022-23 season with a second-place finish at the 16-team Augsburg Fall Invitational shooting a 601 during the 36-hole event.
Conor Schubring topped the field with a two-under-par 142 shooting one-under 71 on both days.
BU shot a 301 in the opening round before taking a stroke off on day two with a 300. The Royals 601 matches a 36-hole best since head coach
Nick Cocalis took over the program. Bethel was four strokes back of St. John's who took first with a 597. The Royals "B" team placed 14th.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Bethel led the field in par four scoring with a +14 and had the fourth most birdies with 16
• Schubring was in a four-way tie for first after 18 holes before separating himself from the field. He carded par on every hole except for the 353-yard par four second hole where he carded birdie
• Wellen carded a career-low 73 in the final round for a career-best 149. He capped out the day with a big birdie on his final hole of the day, the par-five 546-yard first hole. Lifting BU a stroke past Wisconsin-Eau Claire
