ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University women's tennis team picked up a 5-0 victory over St. Olaf in the MIAC Quarterfinals Tuesday afternoon at Ona Orth Athletic Complex.
The win advances the Royals to the semifinals for the fifth straight season where they now take on top-seeded Gustavus Adolphus Thursday in St. Peter. Start time is currently scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
BU started the day trailing in all three doubles matches, but showed no panic at all.
Rylee Schurman and
Emma Thole picked up BU's first team point with an 8-4 victory at No. 2 doubles.
Grace Riermann and
Sydney Rott trailed 3-4 at one point before coming back strong taking it 8-6 at No. 1 doubles.
With all eyes on them,
Elise Bierbaum and
Ingrid Goldstrand put the Royals in the most ideal spot, up 3-0 after doubles matches, taking No. 3, 8-6.
That momentum carried into singles play where the Royals took all their opening sets.
Emma Thole with her persistent play took the No. 4 singles match 6-3, 6-1. Riermann showed her confidence on court one with the match-clinching 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles.
Despite going unfinished, the Royals were leading at No. 2 and No. 5 singles and leading in the third set at No. 6.
