WINONA, Minn. - The Bethel Royals are in 4th place with 27 team points after day one of the MIAC Outdoor Championships.
Gabe Irons was the top point scorer for Bethel on Friday, scoring 8 points with his 2nd place finish in the shot put. His best throw was 15.34m / 50'4". Freshman Evan Larsen earned all-conference honors by throwing a lifetime best 14.61m / 47'11.25", placing 3rd overall. Hunter Tanem earned 8th place with his throw of 13.45m / 44'1.5".
Senior Sean Bjork closed his career with a personal best in the long jump. His leap of 6.52m / 21'4.75" placed him 8th overall, scoring a point for the Royals.
Captain Ike Mendel put together a phenomenal effort in the 10k to place 4th and score 5 team points. His time of 31:27.28 is a personal best and the 3rd fastest in program history.
Bethel also had several athletes qualify for the finals on Saturday. The Royals put four men into the 110m hurdle finals as Josh Sampson (14.47), Jayson Ekiyor (14.49), David Myres (15.07), and Lukas Walton (15.36) all finished in the top-5 of the preliminary round. Bethel also had the top 3 times in the 400m hurdles. Joel Smith ran 54.44, David Myres ran 54.71, and Tyler Sealock ran 55.34 to qualify for the final. Lukas Walton also qualified for the finals of the 400m hurdles, running 56.01.
Jacob Parent coasted to a 49.23 and an automatic qualifying time for Saturday's final. Freshman Godsword Simon had a season best 11.03 in the 100m and qualified for the finals.
