ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Bethel University men's tennis team fell to Carleton 8-1 Wednesday at Ona Orth Athletic Complex. The loss drops BU to 4-4 in MIAC play meaning a chance at a third straight MIAC Playoff berth comes down to its final match on Saturday with St. Scholastica.
A win by the Royals on Saturday would put them in without having to crunch the tiebreaker numbers. At the present moment, with a win BU would be a No. 4 or No. 5 seed pending the result of Saint John's versus Hamline on Thursday evening. SJU is currently a spot ahead of the Royals in fourth.Â
A loss by the Royals would put them at minimum in a three-way tie with St. Olaf and St. Scholastica in which tiebreaker procedures would be use. The Royals currently hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over St. Olaf and Hamline, two teams that sit below BU. But of course a win by Bethel would eliminate any tiebreaker procedure. A complete list of the tiebreakers can be found
here.
Erik Beckers and
Jason Reilly notched the Royals lone point on Wednesday as they were up 7-7 in the No. 1 doubles match before Carleton's top duo retired.Â
Start time for Saturday's senior day match with the Saints is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
