LAKEVILLE, Minn. – The Bethel University men's tennis team picked up a 7-2 win over St. Olaf Friday evening at the Lakeville Lifetime Fitness. Snapping a two-match losing skid, the Royals moved to 9-7 on the year and 4-3 in MIAC play where they sit fifth in the standings.
Steven Benoy and
Andrew Holmes secured Bethel's first point winning at No. 3 doubles 8-5. The top duo of
Erik Beckers and
Jason Reilly put the Royals up 2-0 winning 8-6. St. Olaf took the No. 3 doubles match over
Jacob Lukkarila and
Luke Wyly 8-6.
Brett Eliason got the Royals first singles point in a super tiebreaker battle. After dropping the first set 2-6 he bounced back 6-3 before edging out the Oles No. 6 player 10-8.
Luke Wyly at No. 4 rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 decision before
Jason Reilly secured the victory for BU at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-4.
Steven Benoy didn't drop a game at No. 5 while
Jacob Lukkarila won 6-0, 6-4.
The Royals are back on the courts next Wednesday hosting current unbeaten Carleton at 4:30 p.m.
