Hurdlers Lead the Way for Royals at Hamline Invite

RESULTS
 
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Royals won three events and took four of the top-5 places in the 400m hurdles at the Hamline Invite on Saturday, April 2nd. 
 
Bethel was led by their two All-Americans in the 400m hurdles – Joel Smith and Tyler Sealock. Smith won the race in a season best time of 54.29 and Sealock was 2nd in 55.20. Smith's time now ranks 3rd in Division III while Sealock's time is 10th. Lukas Walton took 4th place in 56.68 and freshman Jayson Ekiyor was 5th in 57.17. In the 110H, David Myres had a personal best and MIAC leading time of 15.06 to take 2nd place. That time also ranks Myres 12th nationally. Freshman Josh Lee was 9th in his first collegiate 110H race with his time of 16.62.
 
Jacob Parent blazed to a personal best time of 21.77 in the 200m, which placed him 3rd overall. Parent's time is 12th nationally and ranks as the 4th fastest in program history.
 
Lukas Walton cleared a personal best 1.95m / 6'4.75" in the high jump and nearly cleared 2.00m / 6'6.75". Walton place 3rd overall. Freshman Alec Braun made 1.85m / 6'0.75" to take 9th place. Sam Gardeen took 8th place in the pole vault as he cleared a bar at 3.85m / 12'7.5". In the long jump, Cade Downey narrowly out placed teammate Sean Bjork as the pair finished 8th and 9th respectively. Downey jumped a personal best 6.30m / 20'8", just one centimeter ahead of Bjork at 6.29m /20'7.75". Harrison Nistler took 5th place in the triple jump with his leap of 12.82m / 42'0.75".
 
Gabe Irons won the discus with a season best performance of 48.71m / 159'9". That throw ranks Irons 3rd in Division III. Irons also took 2nd place in the shot put with a toss of 14.38m / 47'2.25". Hunter Tanem added a top-10 finish for Bethel as he threw 12.36m / 40'6.75" for 10th place.
 
Reese Thompson was the top finisher for the Royals in the distance events. Thompson took 6th place in the 3000m steeplechase – his first time ever running the unique event – with a solid time of 10:13.26.
 
At the conclusion of the meet, the 4x400m relay team of Jacob Parent, Joel Smith, David Myres, and Lukas Walton won by over 4 seconds with their time of 3:21.74.
 
The Royals continue their outdoor season next week at UW-River Falls on Saturday, April 9th.
