Simacek Shuts Out Previous Unbeaten Concordia (Wis.)

CLERMONT, Fla. – The rain canceled the original spring break opener for the Bethel University softball team against Ohio Wesleyan, instead it was tasked with previous unbeaten Concordia (Wis.). A shutout performance from Kayla Simacek earned Bethel the 2-0 victory over the Falcons.

The Royals wasted no time putting the ball in play with five hits through its first three at bats but stranded five runners in that time span.

Simacek didn't give up a hit until a bunt single in the bottom of the third. That runner was quickly retired by Cortney Hokanson while trying to steal second.

Kayla Hokanson drew a leadoff walk in the fourth before being pinch ran for by Hailey Rismeyer. Dabu would reach via an error, eventually making it to third, on the next at bat with the errant throw allowing Rismeyer to work her way around the bases scoring the game's first run.

Dabu made it 2-0 scoring on C. Hokanson's infield single.

Concordia (6-1) threatened in the bottom half of the inning with runners at first and second with one out. But Simacek picked up a strikeout and pop up to end the threat.

The Falcons again put a runner in scoring position in the sixth before Simack picked up her ninth and final strikeout of the game.

Bethel (3-2) secured the victory ending the game with a double play as K. Hokanson snagged a liner before doubling off the runner at second.
