RESULTS
ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - For the 1st time in over two years, the Bethel track and field team hosted an indoor meet with fans on Saturday at the Gene Glader Classic. The meet was highlighted by several nationally ranked performances and 9 event victories by the Royals.
SPRINTS
The Royals provided fireworks in the sprints by winning 3 events and putting up 4 nationally ranked performances. Bethel swept the top 3 spots in the 60m hurdles as Jayson Ekyior took 1st, Josh Sampson took 2nd, and David Myres took 3rd. Ekyior's time of 8.23 ranks him 9th in Division III, while Sampson's time of 8.27 ranks him 14th. In the 400m, Joel Smith used a late surge to edge out teammate Jacob Parent as Bethel took the top 4 spots in the event. Smith's time of 49.80 ranks 13th in Division III, while Parent's time of 49.95 ranks 20th. Tyler Sealock took 3rd for Bethel in a time of 51.33. The Royals also took the top spot in the 4x400m relay. The team of Trokon Karngar, Sampson, Sealock, and Parent ran a time of 3:27.92. Freshman Cameran McConnell tied his personal best in the 60m of 7.18 to take 2nd place.
FIELD
Captain Gabe Irons led the Royals in the field events by winning both the weight throw and the shot put for the 3rd consecutive week. Irons won the weight throw in a MIAC leading 17.94m / 58'10.25". That throw also ranks him 11th in Division III. Irons also won the shot put in a personal best throw of 14.53m / 47'8". Freshman Alec Braun gave Bethel another victory in the field. Braun won the high jump with his leap of 1.85m / 6'0.75". Harrison Nistler and Benn McKean took 1st and 2nd, respectively, in the triple jump. Nistler jumped 12.29m / 40'4" and McKean jumped 11.96m / 39'3". Senior Sean Bjork took 2nd place in the long jump with a leap of 6.23m / 20'5.25". In the pole vault, freshmen Sam Gardeen (3.80m / 12'5.5") and Gael Ramirez (3.35m / 10'11.5") took 2nd and 3rd, respectively.Â
DISTANCE
Bethel earned two event wins in the middle distance events on Saturday. Sophomore Nathan Smith pulled clear of the field in the final turn of the 800m to win in a time of 2:01.31. Freshman Clark Nelson took 3rd place with a time of 2:04.89. Austin Otier was the top finisher in the 600m run as he completed the 3 lap race in 1:32.84. Grant Graber added a 3rd play finish for the Royals as he ran a season best 2:41.60 in the 1000m.
