Royals and Saints Skate to 0-0 Tie with CSS Winning Shootout

BLAINE, Minn. - The Bethel University women's hockey team had their first tie of the season Saturday afternoon at Bethel University Arena. The Royals hosted the Saints of St. Scholastica and neither team was able to score in the contest resulting in the tie. New to MIAC women's hockey this year is the shootout following the scoreless overtime period which saw the Saints take the extra point in the MIAC standings with a 1-0 shootout win.

The Royals started strong with a 15-11 shot advantage in the first period but were unable to find the back of the net. Bethel goalie Mallory TIdona made a season high 39 saves in the contest to keep the Saint off the board. In the shootout both teams were unsuccessful in their first three attempts, leading to a sudden death shootout with CSS finally able to get the winner on their first attempt.

The loss leaves the Royals with a 6-8-1 overall record and an even 4-4-1 in the MIAC while St. Scholastica improved to 10-6-2 and 7-2-2. Bethel will host both games of the next MIAC series with Concordia on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon in Bethel University Arena.
