RESULTS
NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The Bethel Royals are in 3rd place at the MIAC Indoor Championships with 56 points after day 1 of competition. Bethel took home 2 event titles on Friday, winning the 55m hurdles, and the weight throw.
CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS
The Royals were led by the 21 point outburst in the 55m hurdles on Friday evening. Freshman Jayson Ekiyor was the first person to hurdle number one and never relinquished his lead, winning in a time of 7.78.Â
Captain Gabe Irons earned his first indoor conference title by winning the weight throw. Irons, who had just been passed by a St. John's thrower, responded by throwing a lifetime best 18.54m / 60'10". That toss is a school record, and ranks Irons 7th in Division III.
POINT SCORERS
Bethel scored points in the jumps, throws, sprints, hurdles, and distance events on Friday. Along with Ekiyor's title, David Myres ran a phenomenal race to finish 2nd in the 55m hurdles with a time of 7.81. Lukas Walton also added 3 points with his 6th place finish in 8.15.
Walton's hurdle race was his 8th event of the weekend, as he finished 2nd in the heptathlon. Walton's score of 4886 points stands as a school record and ranks 8th in Division III this year.Â
Bethel had three point scorers in the 400m dash: Jacob Parent, Joel Smith, and Tyler Sealock. Parent was 3rd in 49.82, Smith was 4th in 50.30 and Sealock was 7th in 51.07.
Senior Sean Bjork added valuable points in the field with his 7th place finish in the long jump. Bjork's best jump of the day was 6.25m / 20'6".
Bethel's distance medley relay team of Grant Graber, Trokon Karngar, Gabe Kuecker, and Noah Meissner added a point with their 8th place finish in 10:57.26
CHAMPIONSHIPS CONTINUE
The MIAC Indoor Championships continue on Saturday with the team title at stake. St. John's leads with 102 points, Concordia is in 2nd with 65 points, Bethel is 3rd with 56 points, and St. Olaf is 4th with 55 points. Tune into the live stream and live results at the MIAC Championship website.
