Bethel Wins 4x4 at University of Minnesota

RESULTS

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Royals took home 1st place in the 4x400m relay at the University of Minnesota, as Bethel wrapped up the regular season. The quartet of Joel Smith, Jacob Parent, Tyler Sealock, and David Myres won the race in a landslide, winning by more than 16 seconds. Their time of 3:20.74 is a season best, and is currently 10th on the Division III honor roll. 

Freshman Jayson Ekiyor was the top individual finisher for Bethel, as the only Division III team at the meet. Ekiyor took 3rd place in the 60m hurdles with his time of 8.32. Myres earned himself a personal best in the hurdles with a time of 8.44, placing him 6th overall. Ike Mendel added a 6th place finish for Bethel, running a gutsy 8:54.40 in the 3000m, making him the top collegiate finisher. 

Bethel also got a pair of 3rd place finishes in the field events. Sam Gardeen took 3rd in the pole vault with a lifetime best of 4.19m / 13'9". Senior Sean Bjork took 3rd in the long jump with his best leap of 6.20m / 20'4.5". Lukas Walton was 4th in the long jump with a jump of 6.15m / 20'2.25", and Cade Downey was 5th with his jump of 6.08m / 19'11.5". Walton also was 6th in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.89m / 12'9". Freshman Harrison Nistler took 2nd place in the triple jump with a leap of 12.39m / 40'7.75". Alec Braun jumped a season best 1.88m / 6'2" in the high jump to place 4th. Braun was also 8th in the 200m with a lifetime best 23.55. 

Evan Larson and Hunter Tanem represented the Royals in the throwing events as they placed 4th and 6th in th shot put, respectively. Larson threw 13.86m / 45'5.75" and Tanem threw 13.08m / 42'11.5", both personal bests. Gabe Irons took 8th in the weight throw in an extremely competitive field. Iron's best toss was 17.72m / 58'1.75".  

UP NEXT
The Royals enter Championship Season next week. The MIAC Indoor Championships, hosted by Carleton College, begin on Thursday, February 24th with the Pentathlon and Heptathlon competitions. The majority of the meet with take place on Friday. February 25th, and Saturday, February 26th.
