BLAINE, Minn. – The Bethel University men's hockey team closed out the regular season with a 4-0 loss to Saint Mary's Saturday evening. Prior to the game, Bethel honored its senior class recognizing them for their time and dedication to the program.
The Royals finish MIAC play 7-8-1 with a .469 mark, the best conference winning percentage since 2009-10. BU goes into the MIAC Playoffs 14-10-1 overall and will be the No. 5 seed traveling to No. 4 seed St. Scholastica next Saturday, Feb. 22.
After a scoreless first period Saint Mary's got the best of the BU special teams with two power play goals in the second. An even strength goal in between that and the Cardinals held a 3-0 edge.
Bethel went on the man advantage late in the second but were to no avail finishing 0-for-3 on the night.
The Royals came out strong in the third out shooting SMU 15-8 through the final 20 minutes, including some grade A chance that hit off the pipe.
Saint Mary's added its fourth goal in the final two minutes on an empty net.
