MENOMONIE, Wisc. – The Bethel Royals were led by
Gabe Irons' school record throw in the shot put on Friday night as they competed at UW-Stout.
FIELD
Gabe Irons put on a performance for the record books on Friday night. Irons broke the 7 year old school record in the shot put with a toss of 15.75m / 51'8.25". That throw was a massive 4 foot personal best, is the top throw in the MIAC and the 9
th best in Division III this year. Freshman Evan Larson placed 3
rd in the shot with a throw of 13.76m / 45'1.75". Irons also had a season best in the weight throw with a toss of 17.96m / 58'11.25", placing 2
nd by just 1 cm. Irons leads the MIAC and is ranked 10
th in Division III in the weight.
Freshman
Harrison Nistler jumped a personal best 12.90m / 42'4" in the triple jump to place 4
th overall.
Cade Downey took 4
th place in the long jump with a personal best leap of 6.13m / 20'1.5", just 1cm shy of 3
rd place.
Lukas Walton earned a tie for 5
th place in the high jump as he cleared 1.81m / 5'11.25".
TRACK
The men's 4x400m relay team ran away with the victory at the end of the evening.
Jacob Parent,
Josh Sampson,
Tyler Sealock, and
Joel Smith ran 3:23.48, which stands as the 13
th best time in Division III this season. Parent and Smith also placed high in the open 400m race. Parent took 2
nd in 50.53 and Smith took 3
rd in 50.56. Bethel also went 2-3 in the 60m hurdles as Jayson Ekyior took 2
nd place in 8.31, and Sampson took 3
rd in 8.36. Freshman
Cameron McConnell was the top finisher for the Royals in the 60m dash taking 4
th in 7.27.
Reese Thompson represented Bethel in the 5000m run with a time of 15:51.40, good enough for 5
th place.
UP NEXT
The Royals finish up their indoor regular season next Friday, February 18
th, as they compete in the Snowshoe Open at the University of Minnesota. The following week brings Bethel to the MIAC Indoor Championships hosted by Carleton College.
