Men’s Basketball Closes Non-Conference Play with Loss to No. 12 UW-La Crosse

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University men's basketball team closed out the non-conference portion of its 2022 schedule with an 84-53 loss at home to No. 12th-ranked Wisconsin-La Crosse.
 
The Royals felt the size difference as the Eagles ou trebounded BU 39-28. UWL shot 54.8 percent from the field compared to Bethel's 31.1 percent.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
• Wisconsin-La Crosse took an 18-9 lead through the first six minutes of the game after knocking down three of its six first-half threes.
• A steal and a bucket by Josh Hoffman got the Royals within 19-15 with 12:32 to go, the Royals would get no closer than that.
• A near six-minute scoring drought by Bethel allowed UWL's lead to reach double digits sending BU into the locker room down 49-25.
 
Second Half
• Shooting struggles behind the arc continued in the second half with Tommy Jensen and Hoffman knocking down the only threes for BU in the half.
• The Royals got to the line 12 times but only converted on half of their attempts.
• BU's defense forced 10 second-half turnovers converting it to 30 points on the other end.
• A second chance opportunity at the 4:57 mark for the Eagles gave them their largest lead of the night at 78-42.
 
KEY PERFORMERS
Zach Doely was the Royals leading scorer with 15 points and eight rebounds.
• Off the bench Josh Hoffman added 14 points to go along with two blocks.  
 
UP NEXT
The Royals stay on their home court hosting Gustavus Adolphus Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 7 p.m. inside the Robertson Center.
