ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. – Playing in its first outdoor game the Bethel University men's hockey team dropped a heartbreaking 2-1 decision in overtime against St. Olaf that went down as a non-conference matchup.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• It was an even scoreless skate through the first two periods where STO led the shots battle 11-9 in the first and BU led it in the second 11-10.
• Netminder
Austin Ryman, who had only allowed one goal over his last three starts, had 27 stops until the Oles were able to get one past him with just over 10 minutes left in regulation.
• The Royals found the equalizer 46 seconds later from
Sam Wilhite. The Oles failed to clear it out of the zone as BU worked it along the boards behind the net.
Jack Brown made a nice centering pass to Wilhite who fired it from between the circles.
• The Oles tallied the game winner in overtime bringing it coast-to-coast from behind their own net. A pass to Troy Bowditch allowed him to fire the game-winning wrister past Ryman with 3:36 left in OT.
• The teams went a combined 0-for-7 on the power player, which allowed BU's PK to go 4-for-4
• St. Olaf narrowly led the shots on goal battle, thanks to the final goal, 36-35.
