McAlpin Late Goal Lifts Royals to Upset Victory over No. 15 Aurora

BLANE, Minn. – Late-game heroics from junior defense Julia McAlpin lifted the Bethel University women's hockey team to a 3-2 upset victory of No. 15 Aurora Saturday afternoon at Bethel University Arena.

With BU on the power play in the final minute, Kallie Abrahamson brought it behind the net giving it up to Lindsey Muntifering. Muntifering with tape-to-tape passing found McAlpin at the left point where her wrist shot lit up the lamp with 22 seconds remaining.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• A pair of event strength goals in the first period gave BU a 2-0 advantage at the first intermission. Sophomore forward Brynn Swenson tallied her first goal of the season scoring a rebound shot at the doorstep of the Aurora netminder.
Lexi DeBace had the Royals second goal with assists from Emily Moore and McAlpin.
• The Royals' defense finally gave way as Aurora scored the lone second
• After 19 saves in the first period, Ashely Hess seemed unbothered in the second where she had 15 saves.
• Aurora evened it at 2-2 just over midway through the third.
• In the third BU killed off a pair Spartans power plays one coming with just over five minutes to go.
• The Spartans outshot the Royals 47-20.
