Doely Records Double-Double in Royals’ Loss at Northwestern, 80-67

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Junior forward Zach Doely recorded his ninth career double with 27 points, one shy of his career-high, and a career-high 16 rebounds in Bethel University men's basketball 80-67 loss at Northwestern Sunday afternoon.
 
Bethel was held to 34.9 percent from the field while Northwestern shot 47.7 percent. An 11-0 run for the Eagles in the second half was the difference in this one after the Royals trailed 36-35 at the break.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
Avery Mast was able to get the lid off the basket knocking down the first of five Bethel 3-pointers in the game with 18:10 left in the half.
• Mast knocked down his second trey of the game giving the Royals their best run of the night, 5-0, and pulling them within 19-18.
• UNW held a lead as large as six in the first before Doely began to take over scoring seven points over a three-minute stretch.
Caden Boettcher knocked down a jumper just outside the paint with 34 seconds left cutting BU's deficit to one at the break.
 
Second Half
• Doely had the Royals' first 10 points of the second half before BU went cold from the field.
Payton Thomsen ended a 3:55 scoring drought connecting from long distance as he rolled into double figures.
• Northwestern had a 14-3 run push them to its largest lead of the game at 66-48 with 8:29 remaining.
• BU would get no closer than 10 the rest of the way.
 
 
KEY PERFORMERS
• Doely poured in 13 of his 27 points in the first half. He shot 12-of-15 from the field and went a perfect 3-for-3 at the charity stripe. Of his 16 rebounds, four came on the offensive end.
• Off the bench, Thomsen added 16 points and went a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line.
Tommy Jensen in 31 minutes of action chipped in 11 points
