BLAINE, Minn. – A scoreless battle between the Bethel University men's hockey team and Wisconsin-Superior for the first two periods eventually fell the way of the opposition as a goal with just over two minutes remaining for the Yellowjackets handed BU a 1-0 loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• A defensive battle from the start saw both netminders fending away everything that came their way. UWS narrowly outshot BU 14-13 in the opening period before besting the Royals again in the second, this time by a 20-8 margin.
• BU cleared off all three of its penalty kills while only going on the man advantage once. That power play came in the first period with two shots during the stretch.
• The Royals had a chance to strike early in the third while shorthanded but were to no avail.
• As time winded down UWS was able to control in the neutral zone before a shot in the zone fired high of net bouncing off the boards and right to a Yellowjacket who put it in with 2:06 to go.
• Bethel pulled netminder
Travis Allen for the final 90 seconds for one final push, but time got the best of them.
• Allen finished the night with 38, 34 of which came in the first two periods of play.
