BLAINE, Minn. - The Bethel University women's hockey team came away with a big win over the MIAC's second place team in Hamline University Saturday afternoon. After suffering through a 7-0 defeat to the Pipers on Friday night the Royals bounced back in a big way, defeating HU 2-1 at Bethel University Arena. The Royals scored the games first goal late in the second period and added another right away in the third before the Pipers were able to get on the board early in the third. Mallory Tidona, the reigning MIAC Athlete of the Week, was outstanding in net for BU, making 32 saves and keeping the Pipers from being able to tie the game up down the stretch as the Royals hung on for the victory.
Emily Roder scored BU's first goal at 15:39 in the second period with Lexi DeBace assisting. DeBace then scored the Royals second goal just 14 seconds into the third period to give the Royals a cushion. The Pipers lone goal came at 4:15 in the third period but HU was unable to find an equalizer. The loss was just the third in 10 MIAC games for the Pipers.
Bethel improves to 6-7 overall and 4-3 in the MIAC. Hamline now stands at 8-7 and 7-3. Bethel will take on UW-River Falls in a non-conference matchup Tuesday evening in River Falls, Wisconsin before returning to MIAC play with a series against St. Scholastica on Friday and Saturday.
