ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Freshman
Hayden Glander fell one point shy of her career-high with 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Glander and the Bethel University women's basketball team picked up steam in the second half knocking down eight treys in the Royals 74-42 victory over St. Catherine Saturday afternoon.
Glander knocked down four of those 3-pointers while
Makenna Pearson added three during her 11-point performance. Pearson added a team-high eight rebounds.
Courtney Nuest finished with 11 points while
Anna Garfield added 10.
Bella Williams even stat line saw a game-high seven assists with five rebounds and three steals.
Bethel set the defensive tone early forcing the Wildcats to a single field goal until the 3:26 mark of the first. The Royals opened with a 12-3 advantage while getting to the charity stripe taking a 10-point lead at the first break.
The Royals didn't allow St. Kate's to get any closer than nine even with only shooting 35.7 percent from the field on the other side of the hardwood. Held to just a layup in the final three minutes, Bethel took a 30-20 lead into the locker room.
A big third quarter where BU went 4-for-4 from 3-point land helped the Royals pull away from SCU. Pearson picked up the hot hand hitting back-to-back threes early before Glander followed suit closing out the third in the same fashion.
A layup by
Megan Boegel with 2:25 remaining helped the Royals lead reach 30-plus where it remained the rest of the way.
The three-game homestand continues for Bethel Wednesday evening in a big-time MIAC clash with Saint Benedict at 7 p.m.
