Allstate Release
ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Bethel University senior quarterback
Jaran Roste is the latest Royal to be named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®. The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) along with corporate partner Allstate announced the 22-member Good Works Team, selected from 109 nominees received from colleges and universities across the country. Remarkably this is the ninth consecutive year a Bethel Royal has been named to the team and 15th overall in the 30 years of the awards existence. Making those totals all the more impressive is the fact that each year 11 members of the team are from NCAA DI FBS schools and the other 11 members are from all other divisions of the NCAA (FCS, DII, DIII) and NAIA. Bethel now stands tied with Nebraska for the third most selections ever behind only Georgia (21) and Kentucky (17). The streak of nine consecutive years is tied for the second longest streak ever with Duke who's streak ended in 2020.
"Every year, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team embodies the best of college athletics. These players have a positive impact in society," said Emmanuel Acho, former NFL linebacker, television analyst and 2011 Good Works Team alumnus. "To be named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team is an honor. By rewarding these players for the impact they have on their communities, Allstate is truly demonstrating its commitment to making a difference across the country."
The Alexandria, Minn. Native has put in countless hours of community service dating back to his time at Alexandria Area high school. While at Bethel he has invested significantly in the students within Bethel's BUILD program as a housing and student mentor. The BUILD program provides a supportive and comprehensive educational experience for students with intellectual disabilities. He has also volunteered as a tax preparer for low-income families as well as worked with students who are six months or more behind grade level in reading and delivered individualized one-on-one tutoring twice a week through a structured curriculum. Roste's involvements also include Feed My Starving Children, Special Olympics MN and the Salvation Army amongst others.
Academically Roste is a Dean's List honoree at Bethel with a 3.51 GPA in 5-12 social studies education with business and political science majors.
The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® was established in 1992 by the College Football Association to recognize extra efforts by players and student support staff off the field. AFCA became the governing body of the award in 1997 and continues to honor players who go the extra mile for those in need. Allstate became the presenting sponsor starting with the 2008 season.
"Throughout the 30 years of the Good Works Team, we have honored individuals who create lasting impact in their communities and at school," said AFCA Executive Director Todd Berry. "We have the perfect roster of outstanding individuals that continue that legacy for 2021 and beyond."
