ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – A convincing 4-0 victory for the Bethel University men's soccer team over Bethany Lutheran gave the Royals their best start since 1991 at 5-0.
Bethany Lutheran got its first crack at Bethel goalkeeper
Colin Hupert, who made three of his five saves in the first nine minutes.
In the 17th minute,
Jack Hanson, who we may note nailed four extra points in yesterday's football win, broke the scoreless tie on a great finish. Hanson corralled a ball that BLC attempted to clear off the head of
Braulio Tapia scoring from eight yards.
Lucas Johnson (#10) had not been off the bench long before making it 2-0 in the 35th minute.
Zach Caouette launched a throw-in from the far side before Johnson finished it from five yards out.
Bethel asserted its dominance in the second half outshooting the Vikings 13-2 and producing four corner kicks to BLC's zero.
Johnson scored his second of the afternoon in the 75th where
Ben Richburg picked up the assist. Just over three minutes later it was
Austin Heckmann scoring his first collegiate goal after taking it right out of a defender's foot and finishing on the other end.
The Royals enter MIAC play Wednesday hosting St. Olaf at 4 p.m.
