Claflin Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – She has been a force to reckon with on the court, but this time senior Maria Claflin is being recognized for her accomplishments in the classroom. The Dayton, Minn. native has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for the first time in her career, announced Thursday afternoon.

The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Volleyball Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field or court and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early July.
 
Claflin was one of eight student-athletes selected from District 6 (Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin) to the team while boasting a 3.70 GPA in her senior year studying elementary education and Spanish.
 
During her time wearing the Navy and Vegas Gold, Claflin put down 876 career kills appearing in 92 career matches and playing in 317 sets. A career hitting percentage of .271 goes along with 49 assists, 64 service aces and 261 blocks. Averaging 2.84 blocks a game, she tallied 35 all-time solo blocks and 226 block assists to go along with 279 digs.

She adds this accomplishment to a resume that includes being a 2019 AVCA All-Region First Team, 2019 All-America Honorable Mention, a two-time All-MIAC honoree and a two-time Academic All-Conference awardee.
