ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Having its five-run lead erased, the Bethel University baseball team battled back in the eight with a pair of runs taking an 8-6 victory over Augsburg Sunday afternoon at Hargis Park.
The Royals picked up their 20th win of the season moving to 20-15 overall and closing out MIAC play at 14-11
Matthew Carlsen tallied four of the Royals nine hits from the leadoff spot while
Justin Winterfeldt tallied four RBIs.
With a pair of runners on in the second,
Justin Winterfeldt sent a no doubter over the left field fence putting Bethel on the board with his team-leading fifth home run of the year. Textbook hitting and aggressiveness on the base paths led the Royals to scoring its leadoff single in the fourth.
Starter
Matthew Bohlke retired the first 10 he faced before giving up his first hit of the game in the fourth. Through 5.2 innings of work, he would give up one run and four hits while striking out five.
James Woelfel sacrifice fly in the seventh gave BU a 6-1 lead leaving Augsburg six outs to work with.
The Auggies got ahold of Bethel's bullpen putting up a five spot on six hits in the eight tying it up at 6-6.
Bethel put runners at second and third with one out in the eighth. Woelfel sent a chopper to third in which the throw to first went errant scoring
Joey Fredrickson giving BU the lead back. The Royals added an insurance run on Winterfeldt's single to left scoring
Ty Koehn.
Blake Williams, who entered in the eight, forced the Auggies into a one-two-three ninth securing the win for Bethel.
The two teams will meet again Tuesday in a nine-inning non-conference game at Hargis Park. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
