Royals Top Augsburg in Weekday Matchup

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – A three-run third paced the way for the Bethel University baseball team to earn a 4-2 non-conference victory over Augsburg Tuesday afternoon at Hargis Park.

Matthew Carlsen and Caleb Brandt combined for to hit four of BU's six hits with two a piece. Carlsen drove in the Royals first two runs on a double to right in the bottom of the third.

Meanwhile, Brandt scored two of BU's four runs scoring the third run of the third.

Starter Marcus Krupke through 3.2 innings of shutout baseball with relief from Jordan Krupke in the fourth.

Augsburg put up a run in the fifth before cutting the BU lead to one with a two-out RBI single while runners were at the corners.

A pair of hit by pitches and a single loaded them up in the home half of the seventh for BU. A wild pitch allowed Brandt enough time to cross the plate giving the Royals an insurance run.
Picking up the save, Ty Koehn kept the Auggies off the base paths while striking out three in the process.

Up next, the Royals, who were fifth in the MIAC standings, close out the regular season with a three-game series against Macalester. The winner of the three-game series will advance into the MIAC Playoffs for postseason play. Game one of the series takes place Friday at Macalester with a 4 p.m. start. Game two, at Bethel, is Sunday at 1 p.m. with an if-necessary game three to be played after if needed.
