ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University volleyball team closed out an abbreviated 2021 spring season with a 3-0 sweep of Hamline by scores of 25-18, 25-17, 25-13.
Senior
Macie Gavic tallied 14 kills in her final game in the Navy and Vegas Gold.
Maria Claflin closed out with eight kills and
Emily Rossing six.
Ellie Hoyt tallied 17 assists while
Hannah Wilhite added 16.
Hamline jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the opening set before the Royals rallied off four straight evening it up. BU took seven of the next nine points capped off by a
Macie Gavic kill. From their Bethel never looked taking the opening set 25-18.
Set two was tied on three occasions early while back-to-back kills from Claflin made it 14-7. Neither team scored more than two in a row from there but Bethel held on hitting .283 taking it 25-17.
Bethel led wire-to-wire in the third opening up at 16-6. The Royals left no doubt at the net executing kill after kill. In fitting fashion Claflin sent down the match-winning kill.
Bethel took advantage of its time on the court in what was more than an unusual year, but led by an incredible senior class, the Royals finished 5-3.
