Bloomington, Minn. – Sophomore
Gabe Irons was named the MIAC Outstanding Field Athlete following a successful MIAC Outdoor Championship where he finished first in the discus and second in the hammer throw.
Seven other Royals from the men's track and field squad were recognized with All-Conference and Honorable Mention honors, announced by the conference office Thursday afternoon.
Irons put on a show winning the MIAC title in the discus with a program-record toss of 52.58 meters (172-06.00), claiming the conference championship by more than 20 feet. He also placed second in the hammer throw at 52.99 meters (173-10.00).
Notable performances from last weekend include
Jacob Parent's win in the 400m dash. Parent crossed the finish line in a winning time of 47.98 which is a personal best.
Joel Smith and
Tyler Sealock finished the 400m Hurdles 1-2 where Smith crossed the finish line in a MIAC meet and program record time of 52.10 while Sealock finished in a lifetime best 52.86.
The top three finishers in each individual event along with each first-place relay team received All-MIAC honors. Individuals that finished 4-6 and relay teams that finished 2-6 received All-Conference Honorable Mention distinction. MIAC track and field coaches also selected individual award recipients for Outstanding Track Athlete, Outstanding Field Athlete, Outstanding Performance of the Meet, and Coach of the Year.
