MINNEAPOLIS – The Bethel University women's tennis team came out on top against St. Catherine Friday evening at Baseline Tennis Center, 7-2. The victory locks in a home playoff match for the Royals guaranteeing them a top four seed.
The Royals bested the Wildcats in two of the three doubles positions. At second doubles, senior
Mackenzie Novak and junior
Sydney Rott won by a score of 8-5, contributing to the duo's eight match win streak. Sophomores
Ingrid Goldstrand and
Rylee Schurman took care of business at third doubles, besting their opponents 8-2. At first doubles, the Riermann sisters battled to lose a close match in a tiebreaker.
In doubles, BU won five of the six matches. At one and two singles,
Grace Riermann and
Maggie Riermann avenged their doubles loss. Grace won by a score of 2-6, 6-4, 10-2, adding another victory to her perfect conference record, and Maggie won 6-1, 6-1. Novak followed suit at third singles, picking up a 6-1, 6-4 win. Goldstrand and Rott provided the team's fourth and fifth singles point, while Schurman narrowly dropped the match at No. 6 by a score of 3-6, 6-2, 6-10.
The Royals will play their final match tomorrow against Gustavus at Ona Orth before moving into playoffs. First serve is at 1 p.m.
