Another incredible busy Saturday of Bethel University athletics. Eight teams were in action across the Twin Cities area including MIAC Championship second rounds for the Bethel University golf programs. Check out a quick recap of each sports day below!

Women's Golf Second Entering Final Round of MIAC Championships (Leaderboard)
The Royals shot a season-low 306 in the second round of the MIAC Championships bringing their two-day total to 632. BU sits in second place 12 strokes behind the leaders St. Catherine University.

Nicole Miller sits in a tie for first thanks to a four birdie day where she shot a one-over 72. Anna Tollefson shot a 78 on the day putting her in a tie for seventh.

The Royals tee off tomorrow morning in the final round at 9:50 a.m.

Men's Golf in Fifth after Two Rounds at MIAC Championships (Leaderboard)
Men's golf shot a season-low 297 in the second round of the MIAC Championships. The Royals have a 599 through two rounds sitting in fifth place and sixth strokes off of fourth.

Zach Owen and Spencer Kronbeck each are leading the way tied for 14th with 148s. Owen shot a 72 on the day while Spencer Kronbeck shot a 73.

The Royals will tee off at 8:40 a.m. tomorrow for the final round.

Softball Concludes MIAC Play with a Sweep of Augsburg (Game 1 Box Score, Game 2 Box Score)
The Royals scored early and often in game one picking up a 12-3 win. Kayla Simacek picked up the win in circle as all three runs she gave up were unearned while striking out 10 in the process.

Sadie Hanzalik led the way with a three-RBI game while Olivia Dubois drove in a pair. Jamie Axelberg went 2-for-2 including a double.

A five-run sixth in game two gave the Royals an 8-0 shortened game victory. Axelberg continued her offensive onslaught driving in four runs while going 2-for-4 at the dish. Along with Axelberg, Katie Stewart and Cortney Hokanson and multi-hit games.

In the circle, Rylie Perkins stayed perfect on the year improving to 4-0 through a three-hit shutout. Perkins struck out five.

With the wins, Bethel locks in a 2-4 seed in the MIAC Playoffs May 13-16. A two seed and the Royals move automatically into the double elimination bracket, while a three or four seed would give the Royals a home game on Thursday, May 13.

Baseball Splits At Concordia (Game 1 Box Score, Game 2 Box Score)
A 10-run first led the Royals to an offensive onslaught scoring 24 runs on 27 hits. Caleb Brandt led the charge at the plate going 3-for-3 with four runs and five RBIs. Thomas Friesen was right behind him at 3-for-4 with four RBIs.

Joey Fredrickson and Justine Winterfeldt each drove in three runs. Brandt, Jordan Krupke, James Woelfel and Nick Wenberg all launched homers.

Bethel dropped the nightcap 12-5 after giving up a six-run ninth inning. Joey Fredrickson had himself a 4-for-5 game with three RBI.

The two teams close out a three-game series Monday at Hargis Park. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.

Volleyball Drops Pair of Matches at Home
The Royals dropped Saturday's opener to Augsburg 3-1 falling by scores of 23-25, 25-19, 25-14, 25-23. Kirstin Cotter led the way with 12 kills while Maria Claflin and Hannah Wilhite added seven each. Rylee Forshee added 14 digs while Hannah Wilhite added 28 assists.

Bethel fell to Gustavus Adolphus in four sets falling 25-21, 28-26, 15-25, 25-22. Macie Gavic led the way with 15 kills while Emily Rossing and Kirstin Cotter each added 11. Hannah Wilhite added 29 assists and Ellie Hoyt 22. Rylie Forshee had 24 digs.

Men's and Women's Soccer Close out Abbreviated Seasons with 1-0 loss to St. Thomas (Women's Box Score, Men's Box Score)
The Bethel University men's and women's soccer teams each closed out an abbreviated 2020-21 season with 1-0 losses in their final meetings with the Tommies.

Izzy Smith made six saves for the women allowing no goals in the first half, while Lauren Davis had BU's lone shot on goal.

On the men's side, UST's lone goal came in the 26th minute. Isaac Howell had two of Bethel's three shots on goal.

Women's Tennis Team Narrowly Falls to Gustavus 5-4
The Women's Tennis Team battled to ultimately fall to Gustavus in their last regular season match on Saturday afternoon.

In doubles play, Maggie and Grace Riermann came back from a 3-6 deficit to clinch the match 8-6, winning five straight games. At second doubles, Mackenzie Novak and Sydney Rott fought to earn their 8-5 victory over GAC, and to continue their nine match win streak as a pair.

Although Gustavus took the third doubles point, the Royals entered singles with a 2-1 lead over the Gusties.

At No. 1, junior Grace Riermann defended her name with yet another win in conference play, besting the Gusties in a tiebreaker. Novak followed suit, providing the Royals' other singles point by a score of 2-6, 6-3, 10-8. At the No. 2 spot, Maggie Riermann lost a close match in a tiebreaker, and sophomores Ingrid Goldstrand and Rylee Schurman also fell to their opponents at No. 4 and No. 6. The Gustavus women won their final point at fifth singles, as Rott was bested by GAC 4-6, 5-7.

"We're in every match, fighting and competing," commented head coach Drew Fernelius. "We just have to execute."

The women will begin playoffs on Wednesday, May 5, competing against St. Catherine's again at Ona Orth.
