ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Matthew Bohlke was the story line of the day tossing a single-game record 18 strikeouts in the Bethel University baseball game two victory over St. Olaf 5-2.
Bethel dropped the opener 4-2 following a three-run homer for the Oles in the top of the seventh.
Joey Fredrickson had himself a day at the plate going a combined 4-for-6 with three runs, four RBIs and a home run in game one.
Game 1: St. Olaf 4, Bethel 2
St. Olaf broke through on the scoreboard first plating a run in the second that was extended by a Bethel error.
In the fourth,
Nick Wibben doubled to left scoring Fredrickson tying it up at one apiece. Fredrickson the next inning gave BU a 2-1 advantage with a single to left scoring Thomas Friensen.
Marcus Krupke was solid through the five innings pitched, striking out six in the process while the only run he allowed was unearned.
With runners at the corners and down to their final strike,
Blake Williams had Joey Glampe on the ropes but on the 15th pitch of a long at bat Glampe sent a shot over the left-field scoreboard giving St. Olaf the opener.
Game 2: Bethel 5, St. Olaf 2
Matthew Bohlke was lights out from the start striking out eight of the first nine hitters face, and that was only just the start.
Fredrickson blasted a two-run homer over the left-center fence in the third. BU put up another crooked number in the fourth as a run came in on Fredrickson's bases loaded walk before a sacrifice fly by
Nick Wibben scored
Matthew Carlsen.
Ty Koehn's triple to the gap in right center scored Fredrickson making it 5-0.
The Oles still couldn't touch Bohlke the second time through the order. In the sixth he worked out of a one-out walk with a pair of Ks. A backwards K to start the eighth followed with back-to-back walks prompting
Brian Raabe to end Bohlke's career day with a 129-pitch count.
STO scored both those walks on a two-out double after
Bryce DeLay entered the game.
The Oles in their final chance in the ninth got two runners aboard before DeLay induced three groundouts to secure the win and snap the Royals six game losing skid.
