inNORTHFIELD, Minn. – The No. 6-ranked Bethel University women's golf team finished second in a close battle with No. 13 St. Catherine at the Carleton/St. Olaf Spring Invitational Sunday afternoon. The Royals carded a 315 in the second round, following a 329 in the first, falling a stroke short of first at 644. BU had four individuals place in the top 15 out of 54 participants.
Nicole Miller notched a second-place finish shooting 78 both rounds for a 156, one stroke from finishing first. On the weekend, Miller was one of four players to shoot even on the par 5s.
Anna Tollefson was strong on day two shooting a 77 following an 83 in the opening round. She was five-over at the turn before a pair of birdies on 10 and 14 led her to shoot even on the back nine. Her 160 placed her in a tie for fourth.
Ana Schwarz rounded out a top-10 finish taking nine strokes off her round one score (86-77). Bouncing back from round one where she carded 12 bogeys, Schwarz battled tough weather conditions on day two going even through the front nine before finishing five-over for the day and 163 (+19) for the weekend.
Justine Malenke finished 15th shooing a 163 (82-83) while
Elena Zaborniak rounded out Bethel's five players with a 180 (95-85) where she finished in a tie for 34th.
Playing as individuals,
Sarah Rinnman finished 29th with a 178 (91-87) and
Amy Jacobson finishing in a tie for 43rd with a 185 (102-83).
The Royals turn their attention to defending their MIAC Championship title this weekend (at Emerald Greens Golf Course. The 54-hole event will take place Friday, April 30-Sunday May, 2. Tee times for the event will be released later this week.
