ST. JOSEPH, Minn. — The Bethel University women's tennis team outperformed yet another MIAC team improving their record in conference play to 4-1.
In doubles play, the Riermann sisters led the team with a decisive 8-0 victory at the first doubles position. Following suit, senior
Mackenzie Novak and junior
Sydney Rott topped the Bennies 8-4. Sophomores
Rylee Schurman and
Ingrid Goldstrand had a slow start, but kicked it into gear and pulled out an 8-7 win.
The Royals continued to dominate the Bennies as they went into singles play, where they won five of the six positions. At the No. 1 spot, junior
Grace Riermann wasted no time besting her opponent 6-1, 6-1. Following in their teammate's footsteps,
Maggie Riermann and
Ingrid Goldstrand clinched the wins at the No. 2 and No. 4 spots in straight sets as well. Novak battled fiercely at the No. 3 spot, earning her a 7-5, 0-6, 10-4 win. Rott also squeaked out a victory in a close tiebreaker, with a score of 6-1, 4-6, 10-7. Schurman fell to her opponent at the No. 6 spot, giving the Bennies their sole win of the day.
The women have a busy week approaching, with a match on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday against MIAC competitors.
