Bloomington, Minn. – The Bethel University women's tennis team came out swinging to top yet another MIAC team, St. Olaf, on Monday by a score of 8-1.
In doubles play, sophomores
Ingrid Goldstrand and
Rylee Schurman tied down the Royals' first win at No. 3 doubles, improving the duo's record in conference play to 5-1. Senior
Mackenzie Novak and junior
Sydney Rott echoed their teammates' intensity clinching an 8-5 win at second doubles, adding to the pair's perfect conference record in doubles play. Maggie and
Grace Riermann fought and won a close match at the No. 1 spot, giving the women a 3-0 entering singles play.
Junior
Grace Riermann led the team with a convincing 6-2, 6-2 win at first singles to preserve her perfect record in conference play. Seniors
Maggie Riermann and
Mackenzie Novak followed suit winning in straight sets, and Rott wasted no time as she bested the Oles 6-3, 6-2 at fifth singles. Schurman provided the team's eighth victory of the night by a score of 4-6, 6-4, 10-8. At No. 4 singles, Goldstrand competed fiercely to ultimately fall to her opponent in a tiebreaker.
The women will compete in their next match against Macalester College on Wednesday, April 21, at Ona Orth.
