Royals Gather Two Victories Over Carleton

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - The Bethel University baseball team was able to finish a previously halted game to secure an 8-6 win and followed that up with a 14-3 'W' to complete a three game series sweep of the Knights. The Royals gathered the final three outs of the halted game from April 5th in Northfield, a back end of a doubleheader that was unable to be finished due to darkness, before run-ruling the Knights in game three in what was supposed to be a 9-inning affair.

Blake Williams recorded the save in the halted game as he inherited two runners on base with no outs but was able to induce a flyout, strikeout and groundout to complete to victory for the Royals. The series finale was all Bethel from the start. The Royals scored in all but two innings, including five in the bottom of the seventh to induce the 10-run rule. Matthew Bohlke picked up the win on the mound with five scoreless innings allowing just one hit and one walk with five strikeouts. The senior improved to 3-0 on the season with a 2.10 ERA.

Five different Royals tallied two hits a piece in Noah Wenberg, Ty Koehn, Justin Winterfeldt, Keenan Hodgkin and Marcus Krupke. Wenberg, Koehn and Krupke all slugged doubles while Winterfeldt socked a solo homerun to deep left-centerfield. Hodgkin and Krupke both had three RBI on the day.

The wins improved the Royals to 9-3 in the MIAC and 15-7 overall. THe 9-3 MIAC record positions the Royals in third place, two games behind both St. Thomas (9-1) and Gustavus (6-1) and two games ahead of fourth place Saint Mary's (7-5). Bethel will enter their bye weekend from MIAC play with the next action taking place on Wednesday, April 21 when they welcome the Johnnies from Saint John's to Hargis Park for a 2:30 p.m doubleheader.
