Johnnies Best Royals in Weekday Doubleheader

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University baseball team was bested twice by Saint John's Wednesday afternoon at Hargis Park. A combined five home runs for the visiting Johnnies gave the wins by scores of 8-0 and 5-4.

Justin Winterfeldt spearheaded the Royals offense in game one collecting two of Bethel's five hits while James Woelfel in game two went 2-for5 with a couple RBIs.

Game 1: Saint John's 8, Bethel 0
A pair of home runs by SJU's Soren Roe gave the Johnnies a 3-0 advantage after four innings.

Bethel had opportunities in the first and third but would strand a runner in scoring position each time.

The Johnnies did more damage on starter Matthew Bohlke who suffered his first loss of the season. Brett Carlson out of the pen gave up Saint John's three final runs.

Game 2: Saint John's 5, Bethel 4
Bethel's bats woke up in game two as Woelfel sent a double to left field scoring Winterfeldt and Jordan Krupke in the opening at bat.

Starter Marcus Krupke retired the first six he faced before another two-run shot from Roe evened it up.

Bethel put up another crooked number in the fourth with a RBI double from Ethan Krehbiel-Valoaga and Caleb Brandt scoring Krehbiel-Valoaga two batters later on a single to center.

The 4-2 advantage lasted an inning for Bethel until SJU hit back-to-back solo shots. Saint John's took the lead in the seventh scoring it's leadoff double with the bases loaded and two outs.

The Royals had one last attempt and evening the score with runners are the second and third but the Johnnies induced a groundout off the bat of Kennan Hodgkin.
